Nicolae grew up in Moldova in the hard years after the fall of the Soviet Union. Basketball brought him to Kishinev Bible Church in 1995 — and there he found Christ and a new purpose: to serve God and His people. After years of ministry with Athletes in Action and the International Sports Coalition, God gave him the vision of a basketball academy, and in 2012 the Admirals were born. Uliana, a volleyball player who found her own way to Christ, serves as Administrative Director for the whole organization and Country Director for Moldova — much of the daily life of the academy rests on her shoulders. Together they are raising five children — and a few hundred players. Most of their story is captured on the Our Story page.

LEONID — DIRECTOR, UKRAINE
ALLA — ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR, UKRAINE
Leonid played for the Ukrainian national basketball team, won championships, and reached multiple finals in the Ukrainian and Georgian leagues. But the moment that truly shaped his life came at seventeen, when he heard David Robinson's testimony on a mission trip and gave his life to Christ. From that day he quietly served his teammates and coaches — a humble heart that earned him the David Robinson award in 2014. After finishing his professional career in 2018, Leonid felt God's calling to the next generation, and in 2019 he started Admirals in Ukraine. Alla serves as Administrative Director in Ukraine, carrying the daily life of the ministry there; she and Leonid married in 2011 and are raising four boys — and a growing team of young players in Kyiv.
